Summertime Relaxing! Ottawa Lifestyle Photographer

I've thoroughly enjoyed the slower pace in my work this last year to have more time at home with baby.  I've been just busy enough and will have a lot more coming soon, with family sessions, babies, 1st, 3rd and 90th birthday parties, baptisms, burlesque, and maybe even some mini-sessions.  I love photographing weddings, which we'll get back to after the summer, but for now I’m so glad to have more weekends and more time with family.

Hope you have many moments full of your favourite summer pleasures, just like this!

I Love Summer Campfires!  Especially in Northwestern Ontario.

Monkey faces! Ottawa Lifestyle Photographer

How to beat the heat:

1. Find some nice cool shade.2. Proceed to make monkey faces.
Then run around excited to play because you're 5 and that what it's all about, even in this heat.

Crosby, the cuddly houseguest

A couple of weeks ago our friend's dog Crosby made our place home for about a week.  The first night he was in his dog bed, and getting accustomed to our place again, after that he'd already claimed his favourite places.  One of these was the balcony, but he was so much happier when you went out there with him to watch all the downtown activity.

We had a fun date with our friends Sharon & Bosco at the newly renovated downtown Ottawa DogPark.  Neither of the dogs were into the new doggy water fountain, but were of course more than happy to run and play and chase a ball.  I think it's nice that the city put some work into the space, but I'm not sure how I feel about the gravel instead of grass.  We had a good time either way and it was nice being able to take him there since our apartment lacks the room to run and play (though Darcy & Crosby tried).

Hope you enjoyed your stay Crosby, it was fun having you!

Ottawa Buskerfest

Ottawa's home to endless summer festivals.  One of the best family festivals, is Buskerfest, when they close down Sparks street for 3 days and it's packed with incredibly talented entertainers and lively crowds.  It's a free event, with tipping highly encouraged, and can be very interactive and amusing.  This year it was the 20th annual and looked amazing.
Despite a busy weekend, I had a second to snap this and grab myself a very refreshing lemonade, since I was shooting a wedding nearby at the Chateau Laurier and The National Arts Centre.  I think I should have stuck around a little longer for some fun on the bouncy slide.  Who says they're only for children?

Summer Heat & Beautiful Ontario Lakes

This heat is almost putting a damper on my summer fun! (I mean, really. 46 degrees?!, C'mon!)
One of my favourite places on earth.  And favourite people, too.
Right after a fantastic few days with our favourite houseguests over Canada Day, Bluesfest was on and the heat didn't let up.  Darcy and I were very busy between work and volunteering with Bluesfest for two weeks and all I could think about was being in a lake!

The fun and the heat are making this a pretty memorable July so far.  It's been nice to be home working with the AC on, but kind of wish I was back home.  Especially if it would mean time with friends, family and these little kiddos that are little fish, just like I was, constantly in the water.

We had a shoot at Carnival Diablo on Friday, then it will be yoga in the park and a wedding on Saturday, and we'll see how the rest of our plans come together.  There will be some great photos to share with you as soon as we can!  I hope you are enjoying your long weekend, whatever you may get up to with this crazy summer weather !

Canada, we love you!

Happy Canada Day everyone!

We're enjoying the day so far, it looks beautiful and sunny here in Ottawa and hopefully it's great wherever you are!  Today's plans will mostly be on the Hill -we've got a date with Kate and Wills, of course, and a flash mob at 3:00.    There will be some celebrating with friends-BBQ'n, Fireworks, and whatever else may come today!  Hope your day is packed with fun.

Here's some patriotic entertainment for you:

And does anyone else get this song stuck in their head every year around Canada Day?

Have a great Day!

Summer Days...

A short post of recent Bits & Pieces.

These last couple weekends have managed to be both busy and flexible enough to really enjoy summer.  We wrapped up shooting on a short film, and spent one of those Saturday nights watching Some Like It Hot with friends, and popcorn on blankets in a downtown park.

Darcy's music video for The Weathermakers took Third Place in the Ottawa International Film Festival last weekend and the screening was full with friends and laughs.  It was a really great evening and we're already looking forward to The Weathermakers CD Release at Maverick's on Sept 18th.  Here's a selfportrait we managed on our little camera at the start of the evening:

This weekend was busy as well.  It's the final weekend of Pride and downtown is full of energy.  I still spent some time editing, as always.  Here's a shot of my cousin's little boy I snapped while back home.  It looks like one of the best ways to enjoy the season.  With the lake nearby and watermelon in hand.  Enjoy!
