Summertime Relaxing! Ottawa Lifestyle Photographer

I've thoroughly enjoyed the slower pace in my work this last year to have more time at home with baby.  I've been just busy enough and will have a lot more coming soon, with family sessions, babies, 1st, 3rd and 90th birthday parties, baptisms, burlesque, and maybe even some mini-sessions.  I love photographing weddings, which we'll get back to after the summer, but for now I’m so glad to have more weekends and more time with family.

Hope you have many moments full of your favourite summer pleasures, just like this!

I Love Summer Campfires!  Especially in Northwestern Ontario.

Monkey faces! Ottawa Lifestyle Photographer

How to beat the heat:

1. Find some nice cool shade.2. Proceed to make monkey faces.
Then run around excited to play because you're 5 and that what it's all about, even in this heat.

I had so much fun with this recent session!  I love reconnecting with clients.  More will be up on the blog, stay tuned!

Hello, Little one ....

Here he is!
Holden Ewen Darcy Lyle.  Our amazing little guy arrived August 19th in the wee hours.  Isn't he cute?

He's been keeping us pretty busy, and we're absolutely delighted about it, so we're limiting the amount of work we will be accepting.  Please feel free to contact us for portraits, events and weddings.  We will respond as soon as possible with our availability.

Thanks,

Natalie & Darcy

Summertime...

A lovely summer, though we're spending it on hiatus from shooting weddings.  It feels so strange to take wedding season off this year but we have something so wonderful on the way.  We are expecting a baby boy, due August 5th, and are so over the moon excited!

We do look forward to getting back behind the lens for all the incredible moments in your lives, but for now, we're putting our attention on the arrival of our little one.  Please feel free to contact us for future bookings.

We've Moved!

Hello everyone!

Time for some updates from our world here.  We've had quite a bit going on and, if you haven't noticed, we've been on a bit of a hiatus.  There's more news to come but, for now, we'll keep it simple and start with our new location.

After 9 years in our old place (which will always have a soft spot in our hearts) we needed to find something better in many ways, one of those being more spacious.  We've relocated to 258 Lisgar St., a mere 4 blocks away near the corner of O'Connor and Lisgar.  Still in the neighbourhood we love and we're settling in nicely.

We'll be back to updating the blog a little more regularly but as our lives are still pretty busy, and will be getting even more so, please continue to contact us about booking sessions and events with plenty of notice.  Our website will also be under construction for a little while, we can't wait to show you the new look, but it will take a bit of time!

Here's a favourite shot of ours.  Our last evening at the old place.  Talk to you soon!

Rethink Breast Cancer launched in Ottawa

Just this month, Rethink Breast Cancer launched in Ottawa with a Live Laugh Learn event at Lululemon in Westboro.  They've had these events in other cities, as well as informative events with specific topics and themes tailored to young women at various stages in their Breast Cancer journey.  The Live Laugh Learn event was a social evening for pampering and connecting with other young women who can relate.  Their were refreshments and snacks, cupcakes, makeovers by Physicians Formula, hair and wig specialists and of course, the photography to capture these fun new looks.  I swear it was 10% makeover and 90% confidence, strength and attitude that made these women look amazing!

Rethink Breast Cancer not only puts on wonderful events like these, offers peer support and so much more, but it is also a sponsor for the Nanny Angel Network.  The Nanny Angel Network provides relief childcare to mothers with breast cancer, all by volunteers in professional childcare.

Also, Rethink Breast Cancer has come up with some very clever ads to help spread awareness, and ahem, encourage and remind women to self-check.  Have a look at what this organization does, and absolutely have a look at their video below, for a good chuckle.

A masquerade wedding

Here's a preview of our last couple of the year, and what a wonderful finish!

So many fantastic details in their masquerade wedding, with charm and style in every one.  We met Patrice & Ted at WedByHand this February, which we're excited to announce we were selected for again this year!  More info (and posts) to follow, event date is Feb 11, 2012.

For now, here's your teaser of the lovely newlyweds:

Fall is here!

It's my favourite time of year.
The air is crisp and mild (usually).  There's a chill in the air that a cozy sweater's just perfect for and you still have enough sun on your face that your sweater might not get buttoned up at all.  This weekend it was so warm I couldn't believe it, especially since I'm still hardwired to expect Northwestern Ontario weather.  We enjoyed the long weekend with time for family shoots, visiting with friends, and some turkey, of course.

This season we're looking forward to so much exciting work.  There will be more baby and family sessions*, some fun partnering with local Burlesque troupe Rockalily, a fantastic Masquerade wedding with an adorable couple, time with family coming to Ottawa, Auntie Loo's 2nd birthday hoopla, and even more we can't yet share... some of which includes zombie muppets...  (yes, you heard that right, aren't you excited?)

With all that going on, I'll try to post and share as often as I can.  Hope you're all having a marvelous week.
There's so much to be thankful for, and we are so thankful for all of you!

Support Breast Cancer Survivors

Hello, everyone!

I've written here before about my good friend Diane.  She's tough and loyal, generous, gracious,  determined and focused, easy to laugh with and especially easy to root for.

For over a year and a half she has battled breast cancer.  There have been many milestones, some great ones and some that were tougher.   Another young patient she met, also under 30, lost the battle.  Diane's own journey could have been different had her health care team not turned her away at first (without even an examination!) and dismissed her concerns.

She's doing well.  She's even stronger now, and she feels very strongly about screening guidelines for women in their twenties and thirties.
This Oct 2nd she will be part of the Run For The Cure with her team, the Young & Feisty Fighters.  She's set some big fundraising goals for herself.  It's inspiring, and it's empowering for her and every survivor.

There are just a few days left for her to reach these goals that mean so much to her.  Please support Diane by making a donation of any amount at her page on The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation website.

Let this amazing woman know that she can make a difference.  Thank you so much!

We love visitors

We love it whenever we get friends and family visiting in Ottawa.  This weekend, Neil was in town for the National Peace and Police Officer's Memorial.  He and his wife have been friends of ours for over a decade and, while I was able to see them a few months ago for a photoshoot at Kakabeka Falls, it had been awhile since Darcy had.  Taking part in the memorial meant a lot to Neil, and we hope to see him again here next year.  Thanks for making time for a visit, hope you had an easy trip back!

Love for my one and only

Four years ago today, Darcy and I were married, in our hometown.  It was a beautiful, sunny, blue-sky kind of day in September for our backyard ceremony (which is lucky for Dryden since it snowed there just the week before) and then a big party with friends and family.
When I think of that day, I still feel so grateful for all the love and support from everyone to help pull it together.  It was a wonderful day for us, and with every day since I still love calling him my husband.  Happy Anniversary Darcy.
